Urgent!!- Problem installing SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition

Post by GI » Sat, 02 Nov 2002 08:43:48

I am trying to do a typical SQL 2000 Enterprise or Standard Edition
installation on a dell box running 2000 Server.  I have installed SQL 2000
several times with no problems.  However, after I get done choosing a
default instance using the Typical install package and it starts the install
process the first thing it does is try to install the MDAC components.  It
sits there for about 1-2 minutes trying to install them and the comes up
with this message:
"Installation of Microsoft Data Access Components package failed (-1)"  I
select Ok and it quits the install with not having install SQL 2000.  I have
tried the install a couple of times and have rebooted the machine and
disabled the anti-virus software.  I also have made sure nothing else is
running.  Anyone have any ideas on this problem.  I sure could use so help
here

Thanks in advance!!!

1. installing sql 2000 personal edition on same machine as sql 7 standard edition

As you apparently can't manage an installation of sql server 2000 from the
sql server 7 MMC snap-in (thanks microsoft, couldn't you at least support
compatibility between successive releases), I was wondering if I could
install 2000 personal edition alongside a standard edition of sql server 7
and not cause any problems.  I would then control both instances from the
MMC snap-in for the 2000 personal edition which would be on the sql 7 box.
Anyone done this before?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Tore
