Very Newbie - Connection being lost

Post by Grant Reevel » Fri, 12 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I have just finished a course on developing SQL applications using VB5 and
am trying to do some of the lessons on my own machine.  Enterprise Manager
seems to be acting strangly as does my app. When It tries to connect it
sometimes gives the message "A connection could not be established to
ELECTRO_SQL - [DB-Library] Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or
does not exist.  Specified SQL server not found". At other times it connects
just fine.  At some other times it connects but the Query tool does not show
any databases.

Sometimes my app works fine.  Other times it gives connection failed
messages or Unable to connect messages.

What am I doing wrong????????  It doesn't work the same way twice....

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Grant,

This doesn't make sense.  Is your app/SQL EM connecting to a local SQL
Server or is it going across the network?  Any errors in the SQL
errorlog?  Have you applied SP4?

Rebooted everything and it seems to be ok now.  Thanks.

1. Newbie: Lost connection while synchronizing

Hi:

We have a computer running SQL Server 2000 SP2 connected to a domainless LAN
workgroup at our office and at the same time another computer running the
same thing at our studio miles away.

I tinkered with Enterprise Manager a few days ago trying to create a
merge-repl. It worked but while synchronizing via 56K internal modem, none
of the computers in the workgroup could gain access to the databases on it.
Any idea? I have no experience whatsoever with replication.

Thanks in advance
