SQL Server Error 2140 (Evaluation Error / expired)

Post by Heiko Hutschenreite » Fri, 11 Sep 1998 04:00:00

Hi!

I've installed NT4 Backoffice Server and
the included SQL Server.

When I try to start the Server (SQL-Server) I get the message:
"The evaluation period has expired for this
evaluation version of SQL-Server"
(Error 2140: internal Windows NT-Error)

What's that? How do I fix that problem?

I thought that NT4 Backoffice includes a
fully operational SQL-Server or what?!

Please additional reply via email.

Thanks for Your help!!

Heiko,

Sounds like you've got an eval edition of BackOffice there.

SQL Server Error 2140 (Evaluation Error / expired)

Neil's correct here.

When we had SQL Server 6.5 installed, our solution provider provided us with
the evaluation version.  We put the system into production and it stopped
working after a few monthds.

The solution provider could not find a way of upgrading the evaluation copy
(even though Microsoft said it was possible), so we had to backup the
database, deinstall the eval copy and reinstall a licenced copy.

Hope this helps,

Coutta

Coutta,

It is possible.  From memory you copy the non-eval exe's/dll's etc.
over the top of the eval ones.  Then run "setup /t RegistryRebuild =
on" to re-do the registry entries.

1. SQL Server 7.0 OLAP server connect error 2140

Hello,

Just wondering if anybody can help me with the following problem. I've
recently acquired the evaluation copy of SQL Server 7.0 and have installed
it on my NT 4.0 (SP 4) system for testing. SQL Server 7.0 and Agent both
work fine, but the moment I try and run the OLAP server via MMC I get the
error message, "Cannot open connection to OLAP server ...". (By the way when
installing OLAP server and it asked me for a CD Key 0123456789, Don't think
makes any difference !?).

So I checked the OLAP service settings in the services dialog box.
Everything seems to be allright. I thought that maybe the security settings
were'nt correct but I've tried all possible combinations (those that work
for SQL Server anyway) allas to no avail. I keep getting the message "Could
not start the service MSSQLServerOLQPService on ... Error 2140: An internal
WIndows NT Error occurred."

Does anybody have any suggestions, I'm running out of ideas.

Thanks in advance,
