restore master

We are trying to restore our master database.  We cannot
get sql started in single user mode.  We run the
sqlservr.exe -m from the command prompt (d:\mssql7) but
the SQL never starts.  When viewing the error log the
master is started.  However, the command prompt never
comes back after the statement.  Here are the last few
lines of the error log.

2002-03-07 11:01:25.71 spid1    Recovery complete.
2002-03-07 11:01:25.71 spid1    SQL Server's Unicode
collation is:
2002-03-07 11:01:25.71 spid1            'Binary Unicode
Collation' (ID = 33280).
2002-03-07 11:01:25.73 spid1    SQL Server's non-Unicode
sort order is:
2002-03-07 11:01:25.76 spid1            'bin_iso_1' (ID =
50).
2002-03-07 11:01:25.76 spid1    SQL Server's non-Unicode
character set is:
2002-03-07 11:01:25.78 spid1            'iso_1' (ID = 1).

That is standard.  SQL Server is running....you hit Ctrl-C to stop SQL
Server.
Once it is started (in single user mode) you will need to connect via Query
Analyzer to perform the restore.

1. Restore Master DB to db other than Master?

We would like to run some queries against a MS SQL (6.5, sp5a) master db
from an 'out-of-service' server.  We have a copy of the original master as
SQL tape
backup.  Can we restore this tape backup copy to a database - say one called
master restore - on another server with same version as original.  Or can
you restore a master db backup only to a db named master.

Thanks
