Take a look at the DISK REINIT statements.  This will give a step by step
way of attempting to restore a lost database.  But it's no picnic.

1. restoring databases without backup devices

I am trying to restore a several databases onto sql server 6.5. The problem
is that these databases were stored on a sql server backup device named
customer. This backup device was deleted while reinstalling sql server on
the network. The database files are still on the hard drive, but I don't
know how to restore the databases now that the customer backup device was
deleted. Any help would be apprecciated.
