sql server 2000 trial software on xp home edition

Post by martín capó » Wed, 06 Feb 2002 13:21:04

hi all!

I have downloaded the trial software of sql server 2000.
it is a enterprise edition.

http://www.microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/trial/2000/default
.asp

it works fine on windows 2000 professional. when i put it
on xp home edition, after unpacking the files, when
installing the exe (sqleval), it says to me (i am using
spanish)

No hay suficiente espacio en la unidad C:/ para extraer
este paquete

libere 540.15 mb. y haga clic en reintentar

it means:

there is no sufficent space in C:/ to unpack this packet

free up 540.15 mb and then clic on resume

I dont understand why since I have 55 gb. free

I was wondering if I have downloaded it badly or
something else. but I checked the size of both files (on
windows 2000 and on xp) and they are same size (335 mb.
for spanish version)

can u help me?

I'd be thankful. I cant work without sql on my desktop
(where I use xp edition, the 2000 professional is on my
portable). I can try to put the sqleval.exe download on
my portable in my desktop via network, but dont know if
the problem will continue (I suppose so)

again thanks a lot from spain!

Dave,

Quote:>>> Only the Desktop Edition can be installed to either XP Pro or XP Home

If that was the case then the error would have been a different one.

Pls refer
http://microsoft.com/sql/evaluation/sysreqs/2000/default.asp
It states otherwise

martn,

I believe this is an issue with the setup failing to identify the available
free space around certain boundaries.
Try creating some temporary files of varying sizes just to alter those
boundaries.And try the setup.

For example...Refer this archive
"

There is a problem when the free space falls on a multiple of 4GB boundary
(4GB, 8GB, 12GB, etc).  In your case, it is as though the 4GB of space
doesn't exist and the installer sees only 300MB free.  I suggest you
create
a 500MB file to get you below 4GB free space and run sqleval.exe again.
You can then delete the 500MB file.

1. cannot install SQL Server 2000 on Windows XP home edition

Greetings,

I am unable to install SQL Server 2000 Personal edition on my machine
running windows XP Home edition. According to the SQL Server web site,
 that is a valid configuration.

I have reinstalled MDAC just in case, even though the SQL Server setup
reinstalls it as part of the installation. I am using the default
install
with Typical settings. I have tried different combinations in the
install,
such as NT authentication vs. SQL Server authentication, but did not
have
any success. The setup always fail after the files are copied and the
install attempts to configure SQL Server with my settings. I have
included
the last lines of the sqlstp.log. I believe it has to do with the
settings
under which to run the services. I have been only able to use "local
system"
as the account for sqlsvr.exe and sqlagent.exe. For some reason any
other
account that I choose, is not recognized as an account in my domain.
remember,
I am using XP Home Edition.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
