Order by criteria

Post by Irongizo » Fri, 18 Jan 2002 18:01:55

Hi all:

I'd like to know which criteria uses SQL Server for the
ORDER BY sentence.Another database engines use the ascii
codes to order, but Access or SQLServer not. I'd like to
know too, whether it can be configured in some way.

Any help would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.
Bye.

sort order is specified when you install the server.  there might be ways to
override - but I don't know about that.

1. ordering the where criteria to match an index??

In our company, we have always made it a rule that the
order of your where criteria matches the exact order of
the index(s) that you have on the underlined table(s).  I
have not been able to find any documentation that this is
true, and would like to know for sure as i am putting
together a consisteny model for our SQL developers.  Any
help would be appreciated!!
