I had a look at: http://www.serverfaq.com/ntfaq/sql28.html to check but I
can't work it out - according to this I have SQL Server 7.0 "gold" release -
what the heck is gold release?? I'm sure I installed SP2 on it.  Certain in
fact.  I'm also sure I installed NT SP6a as well - what's going on?

Gold release is plain vanilla original SQL Server 7.0.

If you had SP1, you would have build .699, and if you had SP2 you would have
.842.

In other words, it appears you do not have any service packs installed.

Gold release it the same as no service pack (RTM). It seems like you didn't have much
success with your sp2 release... Are you sure that you are connected to the right
server?

Thanks for the replies guys.  What I'll do is re-apply SQL SP2, and NT SP6a,
and see if that makes a difference.
