Arno - standard edition can only use 2GB.  EE can use 3GB if you use the /3GB
switch in the NT boot.ini

SQL 7 not utilising all physical RAM

We have a SQL server 7 (Standard Edition) runnning on Windows 2000 server
(Standard) on a Dell server with 4 GB of physical RAM. We are running a number of
big databases (a few GB's each) on the server. The problem is that only about 2
GB of the 4 GB of physical RAM is being used by SQL, although it is set to grow
dynamically up to 3 GB. DOes anybody have an idea what we can try to make full
use of the physical RAM?

thank you

Arno,

Quote:> DOes anybody have an idea what we can try to make full use of the physical

RAM?

buy Enterprise edition. Standard is limited to 2GB (7.0 and 2000). SQL 2000
Enterprise can use up to 64GB on a Win2k Datacenter.

1. Move tempdb out of RAM to a physical disk

I'm using SQL Server v6.5 + SP3. I found the following message in the errorlog:

Lazywriter: Process 2 generated access violation SQL Server is
terminating this process

After I have searched the microsoft knowledge base, they recommend to move tempdb out of RAM to a physical disk for solving this problem.

Is there anyone having ideas in doing such thing?? Any comments and ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Andy Cheung
