Error code 183 when running the Cluster Wizard

Error code 183 when running the Cluster Wizard

Post by Juan Sanche » Thu, 25 Jul 2002 23:07:52

Hi :
Has anybody encountered any problems when running the cluster wizard. I keep
receiving Error code 183 (Cannot create a file when that file already
exists)
I followed the step by step cluster installation guide in technet. Then used
WindowsUpdate to apply every patch to Windows.
Then I installed SQL Server 7 in the first server (containting the Cluster
Group and the group I created to have the shared disk). Installed SQL 7 SP4
and rebooted.
After that I moved the Cluster group to the second node and installed SQL
there too, in an another shared disk (Im trring to make an active/active
configuration).
Applied SP4 and rebooted.
After that I moved back the cluster group containing MSDTC to the first node
and tried to run the wizard.
First I received the error that it could not upgrade some files and that I
should close System Manager and Control panel on both nodes, wich I did.
I clicked on retry and the process continued.
The it comes the last part of the process when it starts making changes to
the registryand making the SQL Cluster.
About half this it gives me the error code 183  (Cannot create a file when
that file already exists).

Can anybody help me ?

Error code 183 when running the Cluster Wizard

One thing I did not do is create a MSDTC IP Address and Name as a cluster
resource, because I assumed COMCLUST does this.
Am I right ?

Thanks a lot. That was it. I had the same names of the cluster groups and
the virtual server ...
Is that error documented ? because I could not find it anywhere .

|
| I have found this one on the second node - the times seem to tie up (did
| think it looked like an old file version with the 0 in the name, or is
this
| correct for another nodes log?)
|
| I don't see anything that looks like an error in this file, in fact it
would
| suggest that the whole thing installed OK?!
