Missing disk dirver in SQL server

Post by Nelso » Sat, 06 Oct 2001 14:01:39

Dear all,

I faced a problem as follow
There are 2 partitions in my machine, they drive C & D.
But I don't know why there is only dirve C displaying  in SQL server.
Like when I backup a database, I can only 'SELECT' dirver C and
there is no dirve D in display.

Moreover, drive C & D are 2 partitions in same harddisk.
There is no problem of drive D when I use window browser to view it.

My machine is Windows 2000 professional + SQL 2000 personal addition.

Besides, I got no problem of other machine.

Regards,

Nelson

Do you have any files on D drive ?

Just for trial purpose, create a database in QA as follows

USE master
GO
CREATE DATABASE Sales
ON
( NAME = Sales_dat,
   FILENAME = 'd:\saledat.mdf',
   SIZE = 10,
   MAXSIZE = 50,
   FILEGROWTH = 5 )
LOG ON
( NAME = 'Sales_log',
   FILENAME = 'd:\salelog.ldf',
   SIZE = 5MB,
   MAXSIZE = 25MB,
   FILEGROWTH = 5MB )
GO

Then check for the files saledat.mdf and salelog.ldf under D drive

You might check permissions on the D drive to ensure the SQL Server service
account has permissions.

Hope this helps.

You might also want to check if both drives are formated using NTFS since
you are using Windows 2000 professional...Just a thought

Nelson,

 In addition to the previous posts, inn your Query Analyzer execute the
following stored procedure to see if it does return both your drives. You
can also use the backup statement from Query Analyzer to specify where you
want your backup file to go.

exec master..xp_fixeddrives
