SQL Error 14258

SQL Error 14258

Hello,

I am currently unable to run any of the maintaince plans I
created for our SQL 2000 Server (no service pack).  When I
try to edit these plans, create a new one, or run the
plans I get the following error:

Error 14258: Cannot preform this operation while
SQLSERVERAGENT is starting, please try again later.  

The agent is started, and clients are connecting to the
database just fine.  I am using Enterprise Manager to
create the plans.  

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Just incase someone else is having this problem, I found

1. Error 14258 in sql 7

When I try and set up a database maintenance plan in SQL 7
I get the following error message: "Error 14258 Cannot
perform this operation while sql server agent is starting,
try again later" I go into the sql server agent error log
and I see a message stating "Waiting for SQL server to
recover databases" it never posts any messages stating
that it has recovered them and I don't which ones it is
trying to recover. Searched Microsoft's knowledge base
(q303287), we are running thread mode processing, so this
didn't apply. I have tried restarting serveral times
nothing seems to work.
