Possible solution to error 1460 during msde, sql server setup

Post by rima » Thu, 10 Oct 2002 16:27:48

Hi all,

After several unsucessfull attempts to setup msde on win2k server and
reading postings in this forum I finally solve problem with "An error
occurred while attempting to start the service (1460)".

The cause in my case was in computer name. Initially it was
SOMENAME-DC01. After changing to old-fashioned netbios name like
SOMEDC01 setup completed succesfully.

Maybe this helps...

Rimas

Dear Rimas,

What's the version of the MSDE? Do you mean that the installation completed
successfully if you change the name of the computer?

1. Sql 7 on Windows XP - error 1460 in setup

Dear Paul,

First we'd better still try Dinesh's advice. That is to say, run the Client
configuration utility (found in system32\cliconfg.exe). In the General tab,
named pipes will appear in the disabled column. Highlight it, click enable
and then apply.
Then delete the following registry key and reinstall the SQL Server.
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\ExceptionComponents

Please try the above method, I hope it could be of some help to you.

Sincerely,
