Cannot connect to SQL Server on Local Windows 98 computer

Post by Joey Wildermut » Mon, 19 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hello,

I have recently installed SQL  7.0 on my windows 98 computer.

I want to be able to work on databases locally on my own computer.

However I am having no luck with getting connected to the SQL server.

I have searched all over the Internet for some information on how to run
SQL 7 on locally on one computer but I have found nothing.  It says in
various places that it can be done however I have not seen how to do it.

If any one else has accomplished this task please let me know I would be
very grateful.

Joey

Make sure you use TCP/IP sockets or IPX/SPX sockets to connect, the default
protocol is installed as Named Pipes, since Win9x can not be a pipe server,
this will not work. Go to your Client Network Utility and set the default
protocol.

thanks for the response,

I tried both protocols and I can not get it to work.  I should just have to set
the network protocol and setup up the server in the enterprise manager right.
It keeps telling me connection could not be established- login failed for
usr"(null)". Reason Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I don't know what else to try.

There is no integrated security on a win98 sql server - so make sure you're
logging in with a standard security login - the default is "sa" with no
password.

Richard,

Thank you very much.  I have been trying to figure this out for the past week
and know one else was even close.
Thank you very much.

If you are ever in Tampa I will take you out to lunch.

1. cannot start local SQL server on Win 98 machine after installing LAN card

I installed a LAN card on my Windows 98 notebook pc.  After I did, I could
no longer start my local SQL server.  I can connect to other SQL servers on
NT boxes, but cannot get to my local server.  I'm thinking it's a network
protocal issue; however, I'm not that knowledgeable about networking.  Can
someone give me some things to do to try and resolve this problem?  Thanks.

I'm running SQL server 7 on Windows 98.
