Connectivity in SQL

Post by dari » Thu, 06 Mar 2003 23:33:32

Hello.
I'm having problems while connecting to existing
servers, the error says "General network error. Check
network
documentation,connection open(Prelogin handshake())...
please check your server is running and check for the
properties by right clicking the server"

After right clicking the same message appears so the
properties can't be shown.  SQL server is running on this
machine.  Please help ASAP.

Connectivity in SQL

I ran into this same problem with a local SQL Server 2000
with service pack 3.  What I did was to start and to stop
the server several times during database bouncing test.  I
never experienced this "General network error..." with SP2.

1. Connectivity to SQL Server 2000 in Different Domain using SQL Login Failing

Hello.

I'm trying to connect to a remote office's SQL Server 2000 database.
I've had someone at the local office create a SQL Login as a SysAdmin
and he's logged into Query Analyzer using my SQL Login to verify that
it is working.  However, when I VPN into the network, I can't connect.
The error I'm getting is "Login failed for user 'xyz'.  Reason: Not
associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection".  I am able to ping
by IP, ping by name, and I can run some software that shows me that
SQL Server is running on the correct port, etc.  I just can't seem to
connect!  I had the local office use query analyzer to make sure that
SQL was running in Mixed Mode (not Windows Only).  If I can see the
computer, I can see the port, and know the user/pass, what else could
be causing me to not be able to login?  Any ideas?

Thanks.
Mike
