Installing SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2000 Professional

I've attempted to install SQL Server Evaluation , and SQL
Server Developer, but it fails at same place with the
following error message when trying to start SQL Server

"An error occurred while attempting to start the service
(1058)"

What must I do?

Your service has probably been disabled...

Go to services and then check out whether or not your service has been
disabled... if so then you can disable it and start. HOWEVER, you might want
to find out why your service has been disabled. Some companies have
automated processes that are looking for SQL Server that are vulnerable to
slammer and if they find them - they are disabling them.

If I were you I'd change the service to manual and I'd install the patch OR
sp3 and then I'd startup the server. You can get all of the details on
www.microsoft.com/sql.
