Enlightened Technology Group out of Dallas uses all NT Servers, IIS 4.0, SQL
7.0, FrontPage Server Extenstions, Exchange 5.5, etc.  www.etgroup.net

You know, it just occured to me that I don't know where my host,
Interland.net, actually is.  Their billing department is in Atlanta,
with its less-than-inspiring 404 area code, but I think the servers
are somewhere in the Midwest.

I did a Tracert.exe hostname and it took 14 jumps to get to my ISP in
Florida. But when I did the same command to a company close to where I live
it took 8 jumps. When speed counts I rather have the 8!

Tracert does not mean a thing. I can tracert a machine sitting next to me,
and it could take 14 jumps as well. Tracert traces how the packets are
routed via various gateways on the internet. They always try to find a best
path, so I guess you really don't have to worry about physical proximity of
the servers unless you want to administer them yourself.

Not all of your clients are going to be local to you though.  You need a
host with good throughput to a wide coverage area.
