</TEXTAREA> in text datatype field

</TEXTAREA> in text datatype field

I'm trying to display the contents of a SQL text field in a form which can
update the field.

The field content is displayed between the following tags
<TEXTAREA></TEXTAREA> on the form

The trouble is the content contains an HTML template which also contains a
tag <TEXTAREA></TEXTAREA>

When rendering the form and the content tag </TEXTAREA> is encountered the
field content stops displaying.

If there is anyone who is not confused by the above explanation I would like
to hear from them.

eg. Replace("</TEXTAREA>","</??????>")  for display and reverse the process
on Update?

You need to replace, for instance, the "<" with "&lt;"  This will allow the
embedded HTML to be displayed properly without being interpreted as tags.  I
think that is what you are trying to do.

    Well, you got one possible solution. Let me try to address it another
way. You may just want to know how you can remove the tags from the text
value. If so, you can use UPDATETEXT like this since you CANNOT use REPLACE
on text columns:

BEGIN TRAN

  FROM YourTbl AS t

COMMIT

    If you have multiple occurrences, you have to put a loop. Another way is
to remove it on the IIS-side before sending the HTML to the browser.

What I did was put a space between start and stop tags < TEXTAREA >
And did a replace
s = Replace(s, "<", Chr(60))
s = Replace(s, ">", Chr(62))

I guess the space was necessary .
Thanks to those who helped get me looking in the right place
