I am new to OLAP services.
We have an Inventory data warehouse application designed in a form of a
star schema. There are numerous aggregation tables built on the top of
that star schema, and there is a VB application that creates a GUI
interface on the top of those aggregate tables. We have to evaluate
OLAP Services to see if we can replace the aggregation step with
building of the multi-dimensional cube.
Here is my problem (one of them):
We have Product and Time dimensions.
In the Product dimension, the hierarchy is:
All
Product_Group
Product_Line
Stock_Code
Stock_Code/Special_Print_Code Item
The lowest level is Stock_Code/Special_Print_Code Item combination.
Fact table has lots of measures, and among them are Contribution and
Forecast. We have to add another measure Fill_Rate, that needs to be
calculated as Contribution/Forecast. I think we can add Fill_Rate as a
calculated member, the problem is that for the certain items, which are
identified by the Cons_Flag='C', the Fill_Rate has to be the same for
all Prints under the given Stock_Code, and needs to be calculated as
the Sum of Contribution for all Prints under that Stock/Sum of Forecast
for all Prints under that Stock. I can add this field Cons_Flag as a
Member Property in Product dimension for Stock_Code/Special_Print_Code
Item level, but then how can I write the formula to create the
calculated member Fill_Rate, meaning that I should accomodate for that
exception mentioned above?
Another question is: how can I start MDX? Is there an editor to write
MDX queries? How can I debug MDX queries?
