Getting started with SQL Server

Post by Paul Evende » Tue, 12 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I have MS-Visual BASIC 5 Enterprise. I am competent programmer, but do not
know or have the time to learn how to get started using SQL Server in a
client-server environment.

Where do I start?

Has anybody any sample code which I may use? I do not need anything
complicated as I will be able to work out the rest once I have the code and
concepts on how it all works in my mind.

I'd also be interested in any information like that,, there must be a
newbies guide to SQL Server out there for programmers of other languages.
And i dont mean a guide to the SQL language just the software itself version
6 or 6.5 preferably. Any ideas?

Paul,

The "Hitchhiker's Guide to Visual Basic & SQL Server" book will get you
started.

I would suggest looking into RDO if you are using VB 5.0.  There are
plenty of examples in Books Online for RDO.  Try searching on .Execute
method for action queries, and .OpenRecordset method for reads from
the db.
