sql7 on win 2000 sqlmail question

Post by Mike Drewer » Wed, 31 Jul 2002 01:31:13

I am currently setting up a new box to run my sql7.  I would like to setup
sqlmail for notifications.  I do not run exchange server.  What is the best
config for sqlmail to send email only.  Do I use outlook or can it be
directed to smtp server?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Here are couple of other good SQL Mail issues that might interest you:

1. Question about SQLMail/e-mail notification on SQL 2000

Hi There,

I've setup e-mail notification on a new install of SQL2K
SP3 per the instructions in the knowledge base (using
Outlook 2000 client and using the
Workgroup/Corporate "settings"). It (e-mail notification)
works fine for a random period of time (i.e. from a few a
hours to a couple of days) and then all e-mail
notification stops.  The only thing "non-standard" about
my setup is that the smtp server defined in my Outlook
2000/Mail profile is a Lotus Notes server.  I've gone
through all the recommended checkups documented in the KB
but I am still unable to find the cause of the problem.

The only way I can restore e-mail notification is to
reboot the server as restarting the SQL service (as
indicated in one KB article) does not restore e-mail
notification.

Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jorge
