Is there a FAQ for this newsgroup?

If there is, where is it, who maintains it, etc.? If not, should we have
one? I could certainly start putting something like this together. Is there
a good place where it could be posted online?

Is there a FAQ for this newsgroup?

Jeremy,

SQL Server MVP Neil Pike has established an FAQ. One of the sites at which
it is available is www.sqlserverfaq.com

Please reply only to the newsgroups.
When posting, inclusion of SQL (CREATE TABLE ..., INSERT ..., etc.) which
can be cut and pasted into Query Analyzer is appreciated.

Is there a FAQ for this newsgroup?

Post by Sue Hoegemeie » Sat, 06 Oct 2001 09:13:12

Most people refer to Neil Pike's FAQ, which is awesome, and
does address setup issues.  You can find it at:
http://forumsb.compuserve.com/gvforums/UK/default.asp?SRV=MSDevApps
 (faqxxx.zip in lib 7)
 or www.ntfaq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?DepartmentID=800
 or www.sqlserverfaq.com
 or www.mssqlserver.com/faq

FAQs for newsgroups was looked at back when everything moved
from Compuserver over to the Microsoft newsgroups and
different ideas were discussed/addressed on the MVP private
newsgroup server. The first month or so that these servers
were live, you guys were posting some generic usage type of
message in some of the groups every week but with the volume
of messages that some of the groups get, it wasn't practical
and pretty much wasn't read so that was dropped.
I think finally what was decided was that there are the FAQs
on the support site and other people, MVPs who maintain web
pages and could offer the netiquette and other FAQ types of
info.

1. ASP limitations - am I asking the right newsgroup?

Hi...

I'm pretty new to the idea of creating databases for use on the internet,
but I need to learn it fast for a project I am involved in. Currently I am
in the early stages of designing a website for student login, and tracking.
Since this initial plan may well expand further I need to plan the database
so that it can be used later for data mining. This is pretty ambitious
considering my level of knowledge pales in comparison to most of you guys.
Anyway, I hope that I can get help here.

Firstly I am not sure if I am asking this to the correct group, but here
goes - I am considering using Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) to call
up data, and write data to the MS Access database. My question is, am I
using the right language to interface with the database? Also does anybody
know about the limitations for ASP in comparison with similar technology
such as Allaire ColdFusion?

I am building the website on Windows NT Server 4.0 platform, and have been
searching the internet for a good write-up about ASP. I can't really depend
on Microsoft's website too much since naturally they will write only the
good of ASP. Thanks in advance. If I am writing to the "wrong" group, can
anybody suggest me a newsgroup where I can get further help? Thank you.

Sincerely,
husky.
