I have a 6.0 sp3 server that continues to get errors in the NT Event Log
concerning SQLCTR60.  They occur in batches every few minutes.

The specific error seems to be associated with the sp_replcounters
procedure.  I don't have replication active on any server?

I have applied the SQL65OLE patch, in order to mange it with SEM 6.5, but
that's about all.

I had this problem long ago on another 6.0 box, and I 'thought' the fix was
to be sure that anyone using SQL Enterprise Manager - should register that
server with the 'Display Server Status' disabled.

I have done that, and it doesn't seem to alleviate the messages.

I am trying to get my network guy to sniff that server and see if these
requests/error are coming from the outside or the server itself is
generating them.

I would love to hear to the real reason and fix for this

David

We've seen SQLCTR60 in our event log, too. I don't think it has anything to
do with replication, but rather the SQL Server-specific performance monitor
counters that SQLCTR60.DLL outputs to the operating system.

There is a bug in SQLCTR60.DLL, by the way, that can cause blue screen
errors (this is referenced in Q170576). Microsoft's solution for the blue
screen is to rename SQLCTR60.DLL to something else so it can't execute.
You could try doing that and see if your problem goes away if you're not
using the counters for anything.
