trying to install on Win NT4 server SP6
cfgsrvr failing with nothing in logs to show why

it sounds like the service is disabled for this hardware profile.  not sure
how it happens but I've seen it before.  run setup and let cnfgsvr fail.
when the messagebox is popped to go to control panel - services - highlight
mssqlserver - click the HW Profiles button - it will probably show Disabled
instead of Enabled.

Right, Now enabled, when trying to start service get:
Error 2140 An internal error occured in Windows NT

Error 1058 Cannot start server

2140 is pretty much just a generic error indicating probably SQL will not
start as a service.  Event log, mssql7\log\ERRORLOG, try starting from
command line versus starting as a service, to take steps to diagnos why
server won't start.
