upgrade sqlserver 6.5 to 2000 hangs during preparing sql-dmo

Hello,

We are trying to upgrade a SQLServer 6.5 to SQLServer 2000
using the Upgrade Wizard.

Though, the process hangs during the first steps "Preparing SQL-DMO for
Upgrade".
No errors are produced and server is running now for over 90 hours at
100%CPU.
The SQLSERVR.EXE is responsible for this load.

We tried the same process on a test database without any problems.
Has anybody experienced similar problems?
Has anybody a remedie against this behaviour?

1. Upgrading from SQL 6.5 to 2000 - error during export and import via named pipes step

Hi I'm trying to upgrade a client from SQL Server 6.5 to SQL 2000 (two
separate machines) and I get the following error during the "Export
and import via named pipes" step:

ERROR: Couldn't connect to the ADMIN$ share on the export machine.
Verify that the MSSQLServer service uses a NT DOMAIN account that is
part of the ADMINISTRATORS group of the export machine, and that both
machines are in the SAME domain.

We verified that the MSSQLSERVER service is logging in as a domain
admin using the same account and domain on both machines. Tried a lot
of things but still get the same error. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Next thing we will try is setting up a new NT4 box, installing SQL 6.5
on that, migrating the 6.5 data to the new 6.5 box (leaving the
original fully functional so we don't risk anything) and then running
the SQL 2000 upgrade on that same box, then migrating the upgraded
2000 databases to the real SQL2000 box.

One odd thing about all this is that we ran a test upgrade that worked
just fine! Only upon trying to convert again have we had problems.

Again thanks for any help!
