SQL 2000 - Service Pack 2 - Installation order?

Post by Matthia » Thu, 14 Feb 2002 17:52:27

We use SQL Server 2000 SP1 on our server and MSDE 2000 SP1 on our
notebook-clients, which use pull merge replication over WAN.

Now I want apply SP2 to server and clients. I can't update all machines at
once because clients are all over the world - so it will take some weeks
until all machines are updated.

Question: What's the best installation order? Update the server to SP2 and
then the clients or update first all clients and then the server. Can SP1
replicate with SP2 without problems?

thanks
Matthias

Please upgrade the SQL replication distributor first, publisher secondly,
and the subscribers last.

1. Service pack installation order question

I have a W2K (with W2K SP2)Advanced Server MSCS cluster
with Enterprise Edition SQL 2000 installed on it.  I am
planning on installing W2K SP3 and SQL 2000 SP2.

Does the order of installation matter?  Is there any
circumstance that I would have to reinstall either of the
service packs (like you had to with NT 4 when you add new
hardware)?  Thanks in advance.
