MSDE 2000 SP2 Merge Modules Problem w/ ODBC Data Source

MSDE 2000 SP2 Merge Modules Problem w/ ODBC Data Source

Post by Matt Spradle » Tue, 05 Feb 2002 03:35:54

I have a custom app installation using the MSDE 2000 SP2
merge modules and a named instance.

The modules seem to work great. Has worked in most cases
(unlike the previous modules).

However, on one machine I test -- WinXP Home Edition which
was not clean (several other programs installed). The MSDE
part of the installation fails and rolls back everything.

The pertinant part of the log:
driver={sql
server};server=HOME\DB_INN;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not
found and no default driver specified

Evidently the merge modules are not installing the sql
server ODBC driver. The install has worked on other XP
machines so something on this particular machine must be
preventing the ODBC driver from being installed.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have noted that Toby Phipps posted an issue on 1/18/2002
having to due with an installation that was working but
the ODBC driver mysteriously dissappeared. Maybe the
issues are related in some way?

Hello Matt,

Can you please export the following registry key to a file, and email it to
me?

HKLM\Software\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI

In addition, can you please email me the following file - dasetup.log -
which should be in the Windows directory?

This was on a beta testers machine. I will see if I can
retrieve this info. May take a week.

What is in the ODBCINST.INI key that you are looking for?
