Strange problems accessing SQL Server using @DbCommand([ODBC]) from Lotus Notes

Dear SQL Server folks:

I have been having some very strange problems accessing an SQL database

applications work perfectly through the SQL ODBC channel, but Notes
seems to be having a problem accessing it.

The problem is not uniform across computers.  One machine which works
flawlessly, and another one makes it halfway through the query, and then
starts giving error messages.

The problem has Notes Tech Support stumped, and I am looking for anyone
with experience with this type of setup.
