Oracle programmers guide to SQL Server

Post by Tim Roman » Thu, 23 Mar 2000 04:00:00

I know Oracle better than SQL Server, and would like to improve my knowledge
of SQL Server. I have a good book (INSIDE MICROSOFT SQLSERVER 7 by Soukup
and Delaney) but what would really be useful at this stage is a
"translation" document, showing at the very least the names for the
counterpart functionality in SQL Server for common things in Oracle. That
would help me to find more quickly the right topics in the various printed
and online references.

E.g.
Oracle                        SQL Server

Sequences                see identity column
GRANT                    etc
DESCRIBE table       etc

Anything resources like this?

Thanks

Tim,

Have you looked at the Oracle migration white paper?

Tim,

Search using the phrase "Oracle and migration" in the SQL Server 7.0 Books
Online.

Not exactly a one page summary document, but it still might be of assistance.

Thank you both for these very helpful suggestions. I wouldn't have thought
to check the online books for something like this, and I didn't know about
the oraclemigrate white paper.

1. Why no Open Server programmer's guide?

Hi,

just wondering: Why is there an Open client programmer's guide, and not
an Open Server programmer's guide? It's not in the online  sybooks
either. Am I missing some documentation?

thanks,
