Long connect times to SQL 7.0 thru EM

Long connect times to SQL 7.0 thru EM

Post by m » Sat, 17 Aug 2002 02:58:02

Hey All,

Not sure why this is happening, some days it's not a problem, but lately
more often than not it takes well over one minute once I click on a SQL
Server's "Databases" node in EM for the listing to appear in the EM window.
I'm not having any other problems with connection speed through my
applications nor through Query Analyzer.  Can anyone give me a hint or two
as to how to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks!

    Cheers,

Hi,

A long shot...

Perhaps the "autoclose" dboption is set to True or checked ON for the
databases.  You can
turn it off either by  EXEC sp_dboption '<databasename>','autoclose',False
or taking the option off in enterprise manager|database| properties|options
tab.

Also...check if the odbc tracing is accidentally turned on .Start
ODBCAD32.EXE, check the tracing tab.

1. Can't connect to SQL6.5 thru E.M. after install or SQL2000 on win2000 wkstn

I use SQL6.5 Utilities on my Windows2000 professional wkstn.  I installed an eval version of SQL2000 on my wkstn and now cannot connect to a 6.5 server thru a Trusted Connection.  I cannot connect using known SQL login and Windows accounts.  I uninstalled SQL2000 and the 6.5 utilities then reinstalled the 6.5 utilities and still the same error occurs.

Here is the error:
Unable to Connect to Server (reason: [SQL Server] Login failed- User:  Reason:  Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection).

From other machines I can connect with a problem under the same login onto the wkstn.

Thanks for the help.
