TCP IP vs Named Pipes

TCP IP vs Named Pipes

Post by Sures » Sat, 15 Sep 2001 12:09:04

Hi,

I have read and implemented the Named Pipes and TCPIP at
the client level and server level and succeded. But I
could not understand the technical difference between
Named Pipes and TCPIP.  What are the requirements to
connect the database using Named pipes other than the
configuration at the client & server level?  I mean
technically.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
SureshN.

Sorry, I cannot help with the technical information you requested.

I have a question regarding your experience with the two connection protocols.  Do you see a throughput difference?

In my experience, throughput to a SQL2000 server under Named Pipes can be several times greater than under TCP.

1. TCP/IP vs Named Pipes

Hi folks.

In a LAN with 300 clients Pentium-200, W95b, 32RAM, 10MBits net cards,
One server with 4 Pentiums 300MHz, SQL 7, VB6 application installed and
running..

How can I know if the system is running via TCP/IP or Named Pipes?

Which protocol is faster, safer?

Thanx a lot
