DTS Designer Tasks

Post by IHIL » Fri, 06 Jun 2003 04:05:45

All of a sudden the only tasks listed under the Task menu
are 'Register Custom Task' and 'Unregister Custom Task'
and no task icons show on the Task sidebar.  What happened
and how do I get back to the normal display?

Has soeone changed your account permissions?
Try logging on as an administrator.

Same thing happenned to a collegue and it was fixed by
making her an administrator.

I checked that and I'm still the Sysadmin.  The problem exists for all
of the servers in EM that I connect.  However, if I go to another
server's box, the icons show OK. It seems to be something specific to my
PC.

Hello Irene,

Did you install any new software on your box ? coz I suspect mismatch in
MDAC dlls.

I would recommend you to check the MDAC version on your box and the box
where the Tasks are
displayed normally.

You can download the Component checker from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8F0A8DF6-4A2...
BF53-14332EF092C9&displaylang=en

This should tell you the MDAC versions on both the machines. if they are
the same, you might wanna
reinstall the MDAC on your machine.

Thanks,

I checked that and the permissions are OK.  Since then
I've tried re-loading SP3 ( didn't help ), uninstalling
and re-loading SQL Server ( didn't help ).  If I go to
another PC and access my server from EM, DTS is fine.  Its
only a problem on my PC.

Hello Irene,

Sorry for the delayed response. If you still having this problem , I would
still suspect
something wrong with the MDAC setup on your machine. Please check the
version of
MDAC using Component Checker and you might wanna reinstall it with the help
of following
article,

HOWTO: MDAC Setup Troubleshooting Guide

I tried all of the suggestions, but none of them helped.  I finally
formatted the drive on the PC and re-loaded everything from scratch.
Now I'm back in business.  Thank you all for responding.

1. DTS Designer Task Label displayable length

This is somewhat of an obscure question, but I thought
this might be the right place to pose it.

I would like to know if it's possible to display longer
descriptions in the DTS Designer. Currently, most
descriptions are truncated, and when you have DTS Packages
as complex as mine, it makes it difficult to read the
tasks description.

So if I label a task something like, "Transform Widget
Table", it gets truncated to "Transform Widget Ta...".

How can one expand this label?

I know that a tooltip usually pops up when the cursor is
hovering over the task, but that doesn't always work.

Any ideas/help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

james
