Selecting parent member for calculated member in dimension with alternative hieararchies

Selecting parent member for calculated member in dimension with alternative hieararchies

Post by Andreas Fere » Thu, 04 Apr 2002 19:47:23

I am using Analysis services. Whenever I try to enter a calculated member in
a dimension with several hieararchies (DimensionName.HierarchyName), this
does not work if i select a parent member for the calculated member. The
error message is: "Unable to update the calculated member. object not found
(possibly a dimension member) [and then the formula name appears] - during
the creation of the formula".

The parent dimension an parent member names have been selected from the
lists in the calculated member builder, so there are no typing errors.

Once I remove the parent member, or if I make a similar formula in a
dimension without hierarchies (also with a selected parent member),
everything works fine. Can anyone help with this ?

Regards,

Andreas

Hi Andreas,

This is a known problem; the workaround for it is to choose your parent
member in the usual way, then click on the text box where the parent's
unique name is displayed and remove the hierarchy name. So, if you had a
dimension with multiple hierarchies, one of which was called 'Two', then you
would at first see a uniquename like
[two].[Brand Name].&[Akron]
in your parent name box. Editing this to
[Brand Name].&[Akron]
would avoid the error.

HTH,

Chris

Hi Chris,

This worked. Thanks!
