We just installed a new production server with Win2k and SQL Server 7 to run
our Data Marts that we've been developing on NT4 with SQL Server 7. Should
we upgrade to SQL 2000? Is it any better?

Just kidding.
Hey, we spent 18 months adding tons of features and improving scalability
and performance across the board. I sure hope this means that SQL 2000 is
better...
If you have an existing application then just the performance improvements
should be enough of an incentive to upgrade. If you are still building new
cubes I am sure you'll be impressed with the number of features and
capabilities that were added to the system.

This article really didn't cover any of the new features for building cubes
or how the performance improvements will help OLAP services. Of course I
want the latest and greatest, but I'm going to need some better info to
convince my CIO.

Get a copy of the Beta2 and load the BOL to get a look at what's up with
Analysis Services. Be warned however that althought MS insists that you can
administer both OLAP Services and Analysis Services Servers from a single
client machine, this may provide difficult in the real world.

1. OLAP services 2000 together with SQL server 2000?
Hello everybody!
Can someone help me with this one?
I have a SQL SERVER 7 system running just fine.
Both the database server and OLAP services are installed together on a
single machine.
Can I upgrade JUST the OLAP services component to SQL SERVER 2000?
So, I want to run the SQL SERVER 7 database and the SQL SERVER 2000 OLAP
services
together on the same machine.
I think this is possible, sine the two components are completely seperated
in SQL SERVER 7.
But is this really possible? Would it be save to upgrade like this?
Has anyone got some experience with this?
Regards,
Falco
