DTS Question

DTS Question

This may not be the correct group, but maybe someone can point me in the
right direction.

I am building a SQL Server 7 database for a client based on data from their
IBM mainframe.  They use flat files on the mainframe no db.  They provide me
an ASCII text file with fixed length fields to import into SQL.  When I
attempt to connect to their file the DTS connection only seems to be able to
se the first few characters.  If I open the file in Notepad and save it.
Everything works fine.

This is no real problem for me but I don't really want to leave that step in
for them to make updates in the future.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried looking at the file in a hex editor. A wild guess but
there may be strange characters that Notepad looses for you.

For info there is microsoft.public.sqlserver.dts, but I'm not sure about
the strange flat file group :)
