You could create two tables with different names on different filegroups.
Each table could have a check constraint which enforces the dates.
Your application would have to be smart enough to decide which table data
However you could create a view on the two tables as select * from t1 union
all select * from t2 , then create an instead of trigger on the view which
would have the code to determine which table the actual row should be
