which service pack am I running?

Post by Rick Adam » Sun, 20 Feb 2000 04:00:00

I have inherited a NT4 server running SQL7.  I was trying to apply Service
Pack 1 to this server, (it has service pack 6 for the NT).  After running
setup it said that I was already running something newer than the service

Analyzer and it came back with this:

SQL version 7.00 - 7.00.835  (Intel x86)
Standard Edition Windows NT (build 1381 sp6)

Can somebody tell me what I have here?  Is there a newer service pack
already applied to my SQL???????
The readme for installing Service Pack 1 states that if SP1 is installed the
version I should read should be  7.00.699.

Rick,

I would suspect that the SP2 beta has been applied.

Q.     What SQL Server servicepack am I running?  How can I get new ones?
(v1.15 1999.12.22)

table.  Or look at the top of the latest SQL errorlog file.  Or do a file
properties on the sqlservr.exe file.  All should return the same value.

For SQL Olap versions do a help/about in Olap Manager.

If it isn't listed here, then it is a "hot-fix" build that Microsoft PSS has
given you to fix a specific problem.  Hot-fix releases are NOT regression
tested, so they should only be applied to production systems to fix a known
problem and under the advice of Microsoft PSS.  Hot-fixes (password protected)
are on ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/sql/transfer.  Microsoft PSS will provide
passwords as long as you prove you have the bug concerned.  The reason for
restricting hot-fixes this way is so that PSS can track customers who run them
and let them know when a regression tested fix is available.

Service Packs can be downloaded via http://support.microsoft.com or
ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/sql.

Note that you can't apply 6.5 SP4 to either SBS or EE versions of SQL Server.
SP5 and above are compliant with all these releases - i.e. can be applied to
any model of SQL Server (Workstation, Server, EE, SBS etc.)

Microsoft SQL Server  7.00 - 7.00.623 (Intel X86)
 Nov 27 1998 22:20:07

fact.  I'm also sure I installed NT SP6a as well - what's going on?

Thanks,

Paul
