Year 200 date format on display file

Post by boo.. » Tue, 30 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I got the following data in a file:

    AA     012345000AA   brm   29.06.1998

by using these lines in the DDS:

   A        GMIDDT       L         DATFMT(*EUR)
   A                               COLHDG('Date')
   A                               TEXT('Date')

How you get slashes instead of periodsis another issue.

The short answer is "you can't", well not directly anyway.

BUT if you use RPG IV there is a simple solution.

First, declare the DISPLAY file's "date" field as a character field,
10-bytes in length.

For example:

  A                   DSPDATE          10A  O    1  68  DSPATR(HI)

Then, using RPG IV, store the date you want to display into a real date
variable, like this:

     D SysDate         S               D
     C                   Time                    SysDate
     C     *USA          MOVEL     sysDate       DspDate

Then display your WORKSTN file record format and DSPDATE will contain the
current system date.

Err, why not just code an 8 digit numeric field with an appropriate edit
word in the display file and either use *DATE or combinations of *DAY,
*MONTH and *YEAR in your RPG to set it up?  Nice and simple.
