Downloading PTFs via FTP?

Downloading PTFs via FTP?

Is there any reason that we shouldn't be able to download PTFs via FTP
from an IBM site?  Besides the fact the IBM doesn't have it set up?

Does anyone know if it's a future plan?  Would be pretty darned
helpful.

Supposed to be available before long. But support only begins with V4R2.

Generally speaking, I thought that what the ECS modem was for -
(primarily).  This has worked pretty well for me -- except when the
needed PTF was too large to be xmitted - in which case a tape is
automatically sent.

This is exactly what we do in the lab.  But we use tools that drive it
from the other side (AIX box).  Probably missing a few 400-side tools
needed to make it fly.

My ECS works lousy but anyway the problem is that most of the PTFs are as
big as 20Megas or more. This was a discover I did when I started to receive
the PTFs on CD-ROM. You know those CD-ROMs of PTFs are compatible with PC.
Just run the explorer at WIN95 and have a look to the files on it. They are
huge.

So for me I don't care about PTFs being downloaded electronicaly, neither
ECS nor FTP. Takes too long with my 33.600 modem.

Exactly.  When the PTFs are too large, you have to wait for a tape.
Plus, the modem is only 9600.  FTPing them from a site would be a LOT
quicker.

Downloading PTFs via FTP?

I was able to download PTF via FTP up to september, but now it's
impossible.

I send one note to IBM site in Rochester and Bill Alward send me one e-mail
that says:
"The FTP site is up and running. The problem is we don't have a mirror site
for you in Europe,
so your requests have to travel all the way from Italy to Boulder
(Colorado).
That's very slow and unreliable. There's only one thing we can do for you,
and that's to create a  mirror site in Europe, but that's just not in the
budget. ......................................................."

I don't think that up to september was working one mirror site in Europe.
That it's all ..............
I'm waiting IBM

1. Downloading of file using NETSCAPE or FTP

Hi Folks,

Is there any software that work like a scheduler or timer which scheduled
jobs in the background and be able to perform the following functions :

1.   To download a file using NETSCAPE or FTP software.

2.   The downloaded file is uploaded to AS400.

After item 1 is successfully completed, is there a way that item 2 will
perform automatically ?  A check is also required on the date of the
downloaded file which is to be uploaded so that the file will not be
uploaded twice.

Thanks in advance....
