Post by Juan Ramon Garcí » Tue, 20 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Verify alignment writer message does not work when using Client Access for
95/NT printer emulation.

Is there any known way to make it work?

Me and many of our customers  find it a very anoyng inconvenience.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I think you should look at your DEVD and change the PRTERRMSG to *INQ.

I did not explain mysef correctly
What I mean is that when the message verify alignment is isued, the printer
does not write the line so the alignment is impossible to be verifyed.

What I wat is  CA 95/NT  printer emulation to work as an standard twinax
matrix printer or just like CA/ for DOS printer emulation.

Sorry, I didn't understand ;-)

So how is defined your printer on the AS/400? It seems it's defined like a
3812 with Host Print Transform. In this case, the AS/400 thinks it's a laser
printer in which case no alignement is really possible.

Do you have matrix printer behind your PC?

Thanks for your unswer, but the message is correctly issued and displayed,
the problem is that the printer does not write the first line as it should,
so I cannot align the paper.

Yes, I have a Proprinter IIIXL and simmilars and yes I am using host print
transform. Any way the verify alignment message is issued but no line is
printed

Ok ! Well, now I'll suggest you to change the configuration of your printer
in PC5250.

Go in Communnication Menu and select Configuration.
Click on the configuration button for the printer.
Uncheck "Convert Data on the AS/400" (or something like that, I use the
French version). Click OK.
Go in the File menu, Printer Configuration, select the correct driver, check
"Use PDT File" and click the "Select PDT File" and then select the right
file.

I think (and hop!!!) this will solve your problem.

Verify alignment in Client access does not work

Juan, If I understand TCP/IP PCOM correctly, it is not possible to do
alignment.  I believe that PCOM (TCP/IP version) buffers up the WHOLE spooled
file before sending the data to the printer attached to the PC.  That being
the case, there is no way that AS/400 can handle alignment.  I'm not sure if
the SNA version of PCOM does the same or not.

Verify alignment in Client access does not work

That's the sort of unswer I was afraid of: a buffering problem ..... between
TCP STAC or even windows spool manager ..

But I am sure that with some imagination the problem may be solved, for
instance the emulation program itself could manage the alignment, (just an
Idea).

Any way thanks for your unswer.

You could try this too :

On the Printer Properties, Details, Spooler Parameters (??), check "Print
Directly to Printer" (????).

This should avoid any buffering.

Let me know if it works

1. STRPCCMD should not work but does; RUNRMTCMD should work but does not

According to the documentation (Client Access Family) the way to run a PC
command from an AS/400 session is STRPCCMD for DOS, Windows 3.1 and OS/2.
For Windows 95/NT one should use RUNRMTCMD.  However, on my PC (Windows 95,
twinax, NetSoft router, CA V3R1M2, OS/400 V3R2) STRPCCMD does work but
RUNRMTCMD does not.

For RUNRMTCMD the daemon program AREXECDN.EXE should be running on the PC.
This has been installed on the PC, but when I start it, it does not seem to
do anything.  No information, no process running.  When I try RUNRMTCMD from
an AS/400 session, the job log says that the remote system 'did not
recognize the transaction program' (quoting from memory).

Any ideas why STRPCCMD appears to be unsupported?  Will it suddenly vanish
in a future release?  Will it not work with TCP/IP (not with V3R1M2 anyway;
the session is not recognized as a PC session)?

Any ideas how I could get RUNRMTCMD to work?
