IBM 4247 printer with TCP/IP AXIS print-server

Hello All,

Is there anybody familar with configuring matrix printers (IBM 4247) with
Ethernet TCP/IP print-servers(AXIS). We bought 4247 printer and it was
shipped with an Ethernet AXIS print-server which is to be connected to
parallel port of the printer (AXIS is compatible with HP JetDirect). This
method is OK for us, but I am a bit lost with configuration of this
connection.

Our company successfully uses HP JetDirect printers and I configured them to
print from AS/400. I use class *LAN, type 3812, LAN attachment *IP, privide
IP-address, port 9100,  System driver program - *HPPJLDRV and it works OK. I
tried to do the same for 4247 printer - it just prints PJL-commands and
nothing else. It seems that 3812 must a laser printer, not a matrix.

Could somebody give me some practical recommendations about parameters in
CRTDEVPRT command?

Thanks a lot.

Oleksiy.

Oleksiy, The HP PJL driver support will only work with printers that support
PCL5e.  Check out the printer technical reference manual to see if it supports
PCL (may be a feature you need to install) and what level of PCL it supports if
it does.

You may want to try the SNMP printer driver support, although I'm not sure the
4247 will support SNMP.  Check out the AS/400 Software knowledge database for
trouble shooting/attaching LAN printers.

1. IBM 4247-003 Printer attached to AS400 via Axis Print Server

I have an IBM 4247 printer attached to AS400 via Ethernet (Axis PS
540+).
It does all of its printing at Near-Letter-Quality.  Unless I change
the spool file or the printer file to *DRAFT or *FASTDRAFT.
It seems that the AS-400 defualt of *STD corresponds to *NLQ.  Is
there a way to change the default to *DRAFT.  How can I get my reports
to print in draft mode?
When I try to print for example pages 1 to 5 from 40 pages spoolfile ,
all 40 pages will be printed. How can I change it and which way ?

Best Regards
Mariusz
