Hi Juergen!

AFAIK PSF/400 is a LICPGM. Sorry - you have to pay for it. The pricing
depends on your machines Pxx group and the printer speed (1-20 ppm, 20-40
ppm, >40 ppm).

Yes, you have to use HTP for your Laser-Jet. Only if the Laser-Jet has a
built in IPDS-card (e.g. from iData) or a external IPDS-Print-Server (also
iData), you can use direct IPDS prints.

This is good.

Just configure a printer device with the right params and test it. AFAIK
HPT works (but not completely) without PSF/400. Just test it.

HPT is included in base OS/400 software. You don't have to pay for it or buy
PSF/400.
You can use AFPDS printer datastream, and the datastream will be
automatically converted to PCL language by the AS400 writer. Some times the
graphics are not easy to align with characters datastream. I have used a tip
to solve this problem : use of raster mode for AFPDS datasream (change made
on source retrieved by RTVWSCSRC)
The only thing to do is defining a printer with CRTLANPRT command. The
parameters to use are dependant of hardware printer material. Many examples
of definitions are in "Printing V" red book. You have also information in
"AS400 Guide to AFP and PSF" on AS400 CD-Rom Documentation.

Raymond.

1. Performance of Host Print Transform

What is the most useful thing you can do to speed up host print transform
for remote printing?
I've got 1 queue doing a transform to ASCII to another q on same system,
and that q then
ships it off by IP address to our network HP laser.

The transform to ASCII takes 3 minutes or more per page. Is it the setup
of the QSPL subsystem and it's pool?
I am using a workstation customizing table to modify my fonts.
I have tried everything I can think of and its just SLOW....
Thanks in advance..
Robin
