Japanese Windows and Printing

Post by S Steph » Fri, 20 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Hello,
I work for the Library system here at UW, and one of the Asian department
purchased a Japanese Windows 95 for their PC. It works fine except
that we are having problems getting it to print properly. The printer
is an HP Deskjet 600C. We installed the driver that came with the
printer (Japanese Windows didn't come with drivers for this printer).
But when we try to print, it will print English characters only
and garbage for Japanese characters.
Any help or tip in correcting this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Scott

Sorry, there is not a fix. HP didn't release that printer in Japan and,
therefore, didn't develop 2 byte character drivers for it. I don't think
that there are Korean or Chinese (traditional or simplified) either -
any 2 byte would work on a non-PC98 system.

HP did release the 694C in Japan. The driver for that printer can be
found at

Good luck.

I have been using a shareware program njwin150.zip from www.njstar.com
that works for me when printing directly from Japanese internet sites.
You can download a trial copy and see if it will work for you.

Hello,

I have the same problem with a CANON LBP 460.
Sometimes (printing trial pages of japanese fonts for example or some
word documents), I can get some japanese characters printed, however
not all of them.
And then there is a Spool32 error and it blocks the computer.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion or help

Jean-Michel

1. Problem printing from Japanese Windows to HP prntr

I have 2 PC's connecting to an automatic switch box to a HP LaserJet 5L
using a PCL (unidirectional) print driver.  Everything works fine in English,
but when I switch to Japanese version of Windows (from Excel as an example)
I get unreadable characters.  Do I need another print driver?  If so, where can
I obtain one?  Maybe I need printer fonts for the Japanese characters?

Thanks!
