I had the identical problem with an HP 870Cxi, in addition to banding,
After running internal diagnostics via the front panel buttons, both
cartirdges showed firing defects (confirming the banding issue).
Simple resolution: replace cartidges! Now works like new.
Beware of "short dated" cartidges, the shelf life is not unlimited.
