My HP-P1100 always use the color cartridge to print both photo papers and
the regular black documents.

How can I switch to the black cartridge (to save my color ink) when printing
a document w/o any color?

Make sure you are selecting plain paper in the driver settings when you are
printing to plain paper.  Selecting Photo paper will result in the printer using
only the color cartridge.  If this is the problem you will also notice the
printing will be speeded up considerably.

Hi Bob,

I tried printing a plain web page from the internet, the result is in color.
so I went to the Advanced tab in the Properties, unchecked the "Print
Greyscale" box and print again; this time it printed black but still not
really sure if the black cartridge was used or the color one was used to
print a black page (if so than it would be very wasteful to print blcak
using my color cart).
