Does the print head carriage stops during the print job. If it does
then the computer is not tranfering data to the printer fast enough.

Help: Epson 740 SLOW SLOW SLOW

My Epson 740 prints painfully slow. I was wondering if anyone else has
had this problem and found a cure? I'm running it on a parallel port
because of problems with USB not installing properly or freezing half
way through a print job. I see by 2 previous posts others have the same
problems with Epson. It's a shame because this is the 8th Epson I've
bought and loved them all till this one. I spent 3 hours with Epson
tech support and the best they could tell me was interference from my
video card (Creative Labs rivaTNT with 16mb PCI) BUNK!
What I haven't tried is IEEE-1284 cable. I just can't see it making
that much improvement...I mean this machine needs to go faster just to
be called "slow".
OR trying to find an add or card with parallel port that can be
configured for ECP/DMA mode. I say add on card as it appears my
motherboard won't support this.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS
Alan

Since you didn't define slow it is hard to determine just how slow it might be
but for comparison purposes a 740 on a 266Mhz iMac )USB of course) takes about
4-5 minutes for a 720 dpi 8X10 and about 9-10 minutes for a 1440 dpi 8X10.

Don't be so quick to dismiss those Video Cards as a possible culprit. I have found
that they can crash browsers, cause GPFs on programs, and much more. I suggest
that you check for the latest driver version update available. On one problematic
system with Creative Lab nVidia 4400 Velocity I installed the RIVA TNT and man has
this driver been a one pill cure-all for several Creative card conflicts on
various other systems. Are you by chance using a Gateway computer?

1. Epson 740 - dead slow printing !

Hi,

Just got the Epson 740 few days ago. I'm very happy with it so far, the
prints are just far better than the old inkjet I have. But there are two
things
that maybe of interest to prospect buyers. The print speed is very slow
in
good mode. It turns out about 4 pages/min at 360dpi but when you
increase
to 720 dpi, it takes almost one and a half minute for one page (text +
simple
graphics). Took me half an hour to print 20 pages today ! Another thinng
is
the noise is quite loud, so not suitable for night printing. Wish they
can make
it like the HP720!

Cheers,
Tuan
