IDE 2.1 is extremely slow at checking file dates

Perhaps it's your network client/server software. We've had similar
problems since CW 10 when using NFS/Share with sources living on Unix
boxes, but the problem doesn't exist when sources are on another Mac over
AppleTalk (or local, of course). NFS/Share is repeatedly sniffing the
network to see what's changed.

IDE 2.1 is extremely slow at checking file dates

Post by Dave Fernande » Sun, 07 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I have my source files on an NT file server and my project file on the
local drive of my Mac.  Everytime I switch targets within my project, or
make any change to a given target, the IDE locks up for 20 to 60 seconds
while it does something or other over the network.  I assume it is checking
file dates, but I maybe wrong.  Anyway, this is exceedingly annoying.

IDE 2.0.1 never behaved this way.  Has anyone else had this problem.

This is just a hunch, but it seems to me that the precompiled header
files "hide" a lot of information from the IDE/browser/debugger/etc.  So,
if you want, you could try disabling yout precompiled header file(if
you're using one, that is) and recompiling and seeing if that fixes your
problem.  Of course, you will probably want to keep your precompiled
header, so this isn't a fix even if it works.
