1605-R Help Needed

Post by I.S. Direct » Sun, 16 May 1999 04:00:00

I was given an 1605-R that was formerly a Cable modem router.  I don't
have the console cable yet.  Is there any way to reset this thing back
to it's factory settings INCLUDING killing all exising configs and
passwords?  I want to begin learning this thing in my spare time, but
want to start with a clean slate first.

the manuals, cables, etc. or anything, so you'll need to give me some
guidance as to what to do.

Look at the Hardware Doc for your Router.
It is found under
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/1600/1...
It does address problems like yours,
try "write erase" "erase startup-conf" "erase nvram:"
Console Cabel Pinout is given in the docs.
look for "troubleshooting"
"recovering a lost enable password"
"configuration register".

Hope this helps,

Juergen.

Without a console cable you can't do anything.  As far as clearing the nvram
the command to do that depends on the version of IOS.  However, if I were
you I would treat the existing configuration as just another example to
learn from - keeping in mind that it can be quite wrong also.

Without the console cable, even if you could reset it to factory settings,
you couldn't do anything with it.
Check this page out:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/cis250...
2500ug/pin.htm

Go to a cable shop and get someone to make you one, and make sure they do
the rj-45 to db-9 or 25 connectors correctly.  Or you can just order a
verikit from cisco for a decent chunk of change unless the router is under
contract.
