Problem with Cisco 3640 with Multi-Flex Trunk interfaces

Post by SAN » Wed, 08 Nov 2000 04:00:00

Hi

I have a 3640 router with Multi_Flex Trunk interfaces (VWIC-2MFT-E1) and I
have IOS 12.0.7.XK1 (IP Plus). The interfaces are up, but I cannot ping the
other end. I have a similar router 2620 which is working. The configuration
is more or less the same.
I think my problem is the IOS version. Does anybody knows the right version
for this solution ?

Thanks a lot in advanced

Alberto

Try 12.0(7)T IP Plus.

Problem with Cisco 3640 with Multi-Flex Trunk interfaces

Hi again

Thanks a lot for trying, but with this version the router cannot even see
the FastEthernet interface, and of course no chance to see any of the
controllers.
I will keep trying with another version

Which NM are you putting this into? I hope not NM-1FE2W. If the answer is yes,
then forget it. It doesn't work with *any* version of IOS out there.  I've tried
everything from 12.0(7)XK1 up to 12.1(4.2)T. I've ranted about it on this
newsgroup already. I have a case open on it with Cisco (for your information,
it's case ID CSCds47862). I'm still waiting for a fix :(

The symptom is that with most version, the controller goes into UP, the serial
interface is UP, line protocol is UP, but you can't ping or send any other
traffic over the link. With 12.1(2)T the serial interface always stayed in down
state.

Cisco has done it again - they put out hardware without even a single working
IOS version to use with it :(

You have an MFT working in a 26xx with 12.0(7)XK1? Thats strange.
My incarnation of the same setup (1MFT, though) instantly crashed
as soon as I tried to give the serial created on the e1 an IP
address. For me, 12.1(1) fixed that and is stable. But I'm speaking
26xx and 1MFT. I also don't need a PLUS load, the PLUS only contains
all the (to me) superfluous voice stuff, while I want the MFT for
WAN exclusively. But I have heard rumours that the 2MFT might re-
quire PLUS, but the same rumour I heard of the 1MFT, it even was
printed in big black letters on a big yellow bumper on the anti-
static bag of the 1MFT, and furthermore it was told me to be this
way by my distributors support, and despite all that, it was wrong.
PLUS is not only a waste of money, it is also a waste of memory
on a 2620 with 64M - the difference beeing, with IP a full BGP
table (though internal) can be made to fit. If Cisco wants to play
tricks here and require PLUS just for fun to support a certain WAN
card, they will probably lose me on that. But I still assume that
is all just a mess introduced by the VoIP mafia sales droids.

Have a try with 12.1(x) plain. But I'm afraid on the 36xx with
certain WIC equipped NMs, the use of MFTs, especially 2MFT, is
currently seriously broken. Anyone seen the *MFT-G703 already?
How worse are those?

1. Cisco 3640 with BGP and ISL Trunks

I would like to know if a Cisco 3640 with two FastEthernet card and a T1
integrated CSU/DSU card running BGP and also using ISL Trunks to a Cisco
2924XL Switch will work with out any major problems.  The cisco 3640 will
have 128 megs of memory and will be connected to one backbone with a
FastEthernet connection and the other one with a T1.  The other FastEthernet
card will connect to the Cisco switch for ISL trunks.  Let me know if I will
have any problems and what version of IOS I should run.  If the T1 is a
connection to either UUnet, Cable and Wireless or Sprint will I have a
problem taking their Routing tables.
Thanks
Adam
