Cisco 827 and VLAN's

Post by Lars L. Christense » Wed, 29 Sep 2004 17:08:51

Hi there guys

I've got a small challenge for you...

I want to make a couple og ATM-connections to a Cisco 827 (SHDSL-router)
and it's supposed to terminate 2 PVCs on 2 diffenrent VLANs.

VLAN 10 for PVC 0/10 and VLAN 20 for PVC 0/20.

I want to make it totally bridging without any IP-addresses in the setup.

My problem is when I try to add an subinterface from the ethernet port, I'm
not allowed since, and I quote: "Bridging on a LAN  subinterface requires
that the interface be already configured for Inter Switch Link (ISL)
encapsulation or 802.1Q encapsulation" (that's what the router reports back
to me...).

Anyone got any clues...???

- Cheers, Lars

First problem, hopefully its a typo, but the 827 is an RADSL
router. Its the 828 that is a SHDSL router..

The 8xx series doesn't support VLANs. Your minimum supported hardware
is probably the 2610 with a WIC-1SHDSL card (assuming you want to do
SHDSL and not RADSL like an 827 would do) running some 12.2T + code or
so to support VLANs.

Just as I tought... I'm going to use an 1721 instead... Works fine in my
setup,...

None replies ...

I could have swore the 837 supports VLANS in the one of the recent 12.3
releases but I can't find anything on it on Cisco's site.

I did find 12.3(7)XR has support for a DMZ on the 831, 836 and 837 units.

Hint: Good point - I always forget about FN since it wasn't there when I
started working with Cisco (IGS and AGS era)

I mentioned the DMZ feature only in passing - not as a substitute for VLAN
functionality for the original poster - I should have put a disclaimer to
this.

1. Cisco 827-Cisco 827 Voice communication ??? Possible

I have a client that has a remote user, both have ADSL connections 2MB
and 1MB respectivley. They need to establish a VPN between both sites
and would like to make voice over IP calls. Is it possible to do so
using only a Cisco 827-4V router at each end. Can a POTS phone set be
used ? Can the remote user be configured as an extension to the
Internal PBX (Not VoIP) so all calls to that extensions go over the
VPN ?

Thanks for any advice and links on CCO
